Social Development and Management Program

CITINICKEL’s Five year SDMP is directed towards achieving the company’s vision of a well-maintained ecosystem coupled with fully cooperative and self-reliant community amidst equitable profitability and optimum utilization of mineral resources within a framework of sustainable development. It is in this framework that the programs and strategies of SDMP has been developed. It corresponds to the creation of conditions necessary to achieve sustainable development.

The SDMP has three major components: Integrated Social Service Delivery, Rural Infrastructure Development and Rural Livelihoods. These programs have been identified and developed based on the results of Community Based Management System the Province of Palawan adapted. The four main project components address specific issues: low access to safe water, sanitary toilet facilities and electricity, low school participation rate and high incidence of poverty. These four issues greatly affect the community to move towards sustained growth and development.

Strategies for SDMP implementation, on the other hand, revolve around 4 themes: Capacity Building, Networking and Building Partnerships, Participatory Development and Gender Equality. Through these strategies the process of development of the communities are enhanced in such a way that all the dimensions of sustainable development are being corresponded to.

Safety and health Program

Citinickel Mine and Development Corporation’s (Citinickel) Five year Safety and Health Program (SHP) is intended to set the groundwork to mold individual and group behaviors, values, attitudes, perceptions, and positive commitment to safety and health towards the attainment of safety culture in the Organization. The program attests the proponent’s aspiration to be at par or niche higher with other mining companies by going beyond the regulatory compliance where the mandatory submission of the Annual safety and Health Program is a requisite. In other words, the Annual Safety and Health Program to be submitted by the proponent will serve as the operational link to achieve the ground works laid down on the Five Year Safety and Health Program.

The 5 year SHP has four major components: Management Commitment and Employee Participation, Workplace Analysis, Hazard Prevention and Control, and Training. These four components encompass fourteen elements identified as essential in the process to establish safety culture in our organization: A company policy statement that clearly communicates positive commitment to safety and health, outlines measurable objectives and goals, elaborates commitment to safety and health, determines employee involvement, enumerates each individual’s responsibility and accountability, ascertains needed resources and logistics, establishes programs to identify hazards, set terms to develop hazard reporting and tracking system, determines guideline for investigation and analysis of accidents and incidents, sets hazard prevention and controls, establishes parameters for the formulation of an effective program for emergency preparation and response, and defines a program for medical and comprehensive safety training. It defines clear direction by coming up with short and long term objectives that would address all the risks emanating from the mining operations.
